THE ANIMATION GUILD PRESENTS NIGERIAN ARTIST UMAIMAH DAMAKKA
The new Gallery 839 show opens on April 6
What: The “Coloured Braids” exhibition consists of works by Umaimah Damakka, created through a five-year journey of loving art since she moved to the United States. Finding new topics of inspiration in her novel environment, she employs gouache and digital software as her mediums. Her art has a heavy focus on the romanticism of the feminine aesthetic and draws on the distinctiveness of African cultures.
When: Thursday, April 6, 2023, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. PST (OPENING NIGHT!)
No RSVP is necessary for opening night. The public is welcome to visit the gallery for the remainder of April during business hours, but visitors must make requests in advance. Please email [email protected].

Who: Umaimah Damakka is a Hausa-Fulani artist from Nigeria who developed her passion for art at the age of six. When she matured, animation and comics captured her imagination and led a BFA in Animation at the Savannah College of Arts and Design. Subsequently, she worked with studios including Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. Color became an integral part of her artwork as it allows exploration through different mediums.
