Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre – Joys of the Season

THIS PROGRAM
The Nutcracker ballet is a timeless holiday classic that tells the enchanting story of a young girl named Clara who receives a magical nutcracker doll as a Christmas gift from her godfather, Drosselmeyer. As the clock strikes midnight, Clara is whisked away to a fantastical world of whimsy and wonder, where her beloved nutcracker transforms into a handsome prince. Together, they embark on a magical journey through the Land of Sweets, encountering a host of colorful characters such as the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Mouse King, and the Snow Queen. With Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score, dazzling choreography, and stunning sets and costumes, The Nutcracker is a delightful tale of holiday magic and the power of imagination that has captivated audiences for generations.
The Little Match Girl ballet is a poignant and heartrending adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale. It follows the story of a poor and lonely young girl who is forced to sell matches on a bitterly cold New Year’s Eve. Ignored and forgotten by passersby, she seeks solace and warmth by striking her matches, each one conjuring vivid, fleeting visions of happiness. Through her dreams, she transcends her harsh reality, encountering moments of joy and love. This ballet beautifully explores themes of hope, compassion, and the enduring power of the human spirit, making it a moving and unforgettable performance.
