SUMMARY:Kevin McCants and Karen Rosa: Under One Roof at the Betsy Lueke - Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Under one Roof – Karen Rosa & Kevin Mcacnts\nJanuary 9 – 29\, 2026\nThe opening Reception is Friday\, January 9\, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm\, and will include music and light refreshments. \nThe Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center is pleased to present an exhibition featuring the work of Kevin L. McCants and Karen Rosa\, two artists whose practices reflect lifelong dedication to craft\, observation\, and personal reinvention. \nKevin L. McCants is an African American painter\, teacher\, and musician based in Toluca Lake. His artistic journey began at the age of six and was shaped by formal studies in fashion illustration and commercial art at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. With more than 18 years of experience teaching painters\, McCants has guided students through private instruction\, online courses\, and ongoing workshops at the Betsy Lueke Creative Arts Center Gallery and the McGroarty Art Center. Kevin’s core philosophy stresses the critical importance of strong drawing skills as the foundation of fine art. \nKaren Rosa returned to her art practice after a 25-year career working with Animals in Film and Television\, retiring from animal welfare to reconnect with her first love—art. She is currently a School Tour Docent at the Getty Museums. The pandemic provided the catalyst to establish a dedicated studio and resume painting in earnest. Rosa’s background includes work as a textile designer and stylist for Burlington Industries in New York City\, as well as Owner and Art Director of ADCOM\, Advertising and Communications\, in Florida. She holds a BFA\, cum laude\, from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia\, pursued studies in Florence\, Italy\, attended the MBA program at Hunter College\, and completed UCLA coursework in International Business. \nTogether\, McCants and Rosa bring distinct yet complementary perspectives shaped by decades of professional experience\, teaching\, and creative exploration. This exhibition celebrates disciplined craftsmanship\, lifelong learning\, and the enduring power of artistic expression.

SUMMARY:DIG Burbank: Plant For A Greener Burbank @ Johnny Carson Park
DESCRIPTION:The work put in at a DIG Burbank event is a rewarding service in which anyone may participate. You may choose to volunteer as an individual or join with others as part of an organization. Volunteers are assigned to various parks and will engage in activities such as litter clean-up\, weeding\, and planting to name a few. \nFor this event\, we are planning on planting 10+ trees at Johnny Carson Park. Please bring your own gloves and shovels\, if you have them\, as we only have a limited supply. \nAlthough online registration is preferred\, you may also participate in this DIG Burbank event as a “walk-up” volunteer on-site. Must be 12+ years of age to register online. Email bvp@burbankca.gov to register under-aged participants. \nDIG is an amazing opportunity for families\, community groups\, and organizations to build networks and impact our parks\, so sign up TODAY! The investment we make in our neighborhood and community parks is truly an investment in community. \nIf time allows we will also assist the landscape crew with some weed abatement.

SUMMARY:Starlight on Tour: Bruno & the Hooligans at McCambridge Park
DESCRIPTION:The City of Burbank’s Parks and Recreation Department is proud to present a reimagined Independence Day celebration on Friday\, July 4\, at McCambridge Park\, starting at 5:00 P.M.\, featuring free live music and a vibrant drone light show at 9:00 P.M.\, in place of traditional fireworks. This year’s event offers a fresh and memorable experience for the community\, as the City shifts the celebration from the Starlight Bowl\, which remains temporarily closed due to damages from January’s windstorm\, and takes proactive steps in light of heightened fire risk following recent regional wildfires. Out of an abundance of caution\, the traditional fireworks display has been cancelled and replaced with a drone show to celebrate the 4th of July safely and responsibly. \nFestivities at McCambridge Park will begin at 5:00 p.m. and include live performances by The Ultimate Rock Band and Bruno and the Hooligans. The evening will conclude with a spectacular drone light show at 9:00 p.m.\, which will launch from the Starlight Bowl parking area. While the show will be visible from various parts of the city\, the Starlight Bowl itself\, will be completely closed to the public for safety reasons. The community may gather at McCambridge Park\, where the event is centered\, and music synced to the drone show will be available. Visibility of the drone show may vary throughout the area. If you can’t make it to McCambridge but still want to enjoy the soundtrack for the drone show\, a free app will be available for download.
