SUMMARY:Fade In: Meet the Writers Guild Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Are you working on a screenplay? Looking for ways to improve your craft and further your career? Meet the Writers Guild Foundation\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and craft of writing for the screen. The Shavelson-Webb Library is home to nearly 50\,000 film and TV scripts and the Archive contains one-of-a-kind material like unproduced screenplays\, correspondence\, and development documents. The Foundation also hosts public events featuring film and TV writers and community outreach programs that create career pathways for emerging writers and underserved communities. In this program\, panelists will share how the WGF can help in your writing process and once your script has been written. Learn how best to use the WGF’s unique resources to further your screenwriting goals. The panelists will highlight the best places for information about finding representation\, writing groups\, entering contests\, and more. \nPanelists will also bring treasures from the library and archive so attendees can see firsthand what a great script looks like on the page and the process it takes to get there. They will have examples of pitches\, show bibles\, and writers’ room documents in addition to old and new classics. \nBurbank Public Library staff member Matt Legarreta will speak about what he’s learned while completing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in screenwriting and how that fits into his career goals. \nREGISTER at https://burbank.libnet.info/event/11014796

SUMMARY:California Art League Presents "WATER" at the Betsy Lueke
DESCRIPTION:California Art League (CAL) was founded on the belief that when individual artists join together in creating their destinies\, their growth and impact are multiplied in their lives and throughout the world. With visual art exhibitions\, ongoing education\, and creative interaction\, we empower artists to fulfill their highest potential. CAL welcomes all levels of artists to join us whether they are professionals or beginners. Painters\, sculptors\, photographers\, and collage artists are welcome. All genres\, including abstract modern art\, traditional realism\, portraits\, still life\, landscape\, cityscape\, wildlife\, and everything in between are accepted. \nCalifornia Art League was originally founded as The Valley Artists Guild (VAG) in 1948 by the sculptor Henry Van Wolf (1898–1982). Van Wolf had a vision of uniting the scattered artists in the San Fernando Valley area. He saw the need for a fine arts community\, not as a personal money-making scheme\, but as a way for artist members to become stronger. Through exhibitions\, affordable educational workshops\, and social events\, the artist members of the VAG quickly flourished and grew in numbers. To promote our progress\, we changed our name to the California Art League in 2012. \nNow in the twenty-first century\, artists continue to reflect their own poetic joys and interests through the California Art League\, which now carries the torch of a flame lit long ago by people who knew art would always matter.

SUMMARY:Jim Meskimen's JIMPRESSIONS at the Garry Marshall
DESCRIPTION:Jim Meskimen’s connection to Garry Marshall began in 1972\, when his real life mom\, actress Marion Ross\, was cast as Marion Cunningham in the iconic television show Happy Days. As an actor himself\, Jim first appeared in a Garry project at age 17 — featured in the iconic “Jump the Shark” episode of Happy Days. Jim returned to work with Garry again in two of Marshall’s films\, including a favorite of Garry’s\, The Other Sister. \nMeskimen has been a professional actor/impressionist for over 35 years. His ‘voices’ have been heard in animation (Family Guy\, Phineas & Ferb\, Marvel Avengers Assemble)\, talk shows (Jimmy Kimmel\, Bill Maher\, Jay Leno and David Letterman)\, and on scripted TV (For All Mankind\, Mom\, The Big Bang Theory\, Night Court). \nGMT’s presenting of JIMPRESSIONS showcases special stories of Jim’s early years being raised by the real Mrs. C\, his days on set with Ron Howard on his films The Grinch and Apollo 13\, moving homage to Robin Williams\, and original songs in a parade of celebrity voices. Plus audience interaction with Jim onstage in an exciting\, improvised game of “Movie Line Trivia!” \nImprovisational\, musical and absolutely hilarious\, the mind-boggling\, quick-changing personas of JIMPRESSIONS is a brilliant glimpse into so many of our treasured voices in entertainment and beyond\, all performed by the man the Australian Today Show called “the world’s best impressionist.” \nRun time approximately 75 minutes with no intermission.

SUMMARY:LIFE LINE: An Immersive Drama
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be alive? \nThat question is at the heart of LIFE LINE\, a new immersive drama created by Matt Harry (SOMEBODY TO LOVE). This interactive experience will highlight the joys of living and remind us that\, despite our many ups and downs\, we are all connected. \nTaking place in a support group setting\, the audience will help group leader ANGELA (Dorothy Dillingham Blue) convince JOE (Taylor Karin) that there are plenty of reasons to live. They will make gratitude lists\, discuss the point of human existence\, and debate which foods make the best “last meal.” Will they succeed? Or will Joe choose a permanent solution to a temporary problem? \nWhile it deals with heavy topics\, LIFE LINE is not a depressing show. It is a fun\, thoughtful\, and above all\, life-affirming experience. Our hope is that when people leave\, they will view their world in a brand-new way. LIFE LINE is supported in part by a Community Arts Grant from the City of Burbank. Shows start September 19\, 2024. \nWriter/Director Matt Harry has plenty of experience with immersive storytelling. His interactive play SOMEBODY TO LOVE played to a sold-out run in 2019. Become Immersed called it a “delightful romp about the problems of modern dating\,” while No Proscenium agreed it’s “endearing\, playful\, and a bold new take on a genre.” He also wrote the interactive novel You are a Filmmaker\, as well as Sorcery for Beginners\, Cryptozoology for Beginners\, and Time Travel for Beginners. \nAudience Role \nAs part of the support group\, you can participate as much or as little as you like. You may be asked to think about difficult philosophical topics and consider your own mortality. But don’t we do that every day in some way? \nContent Advisories \nSuicide\, self-harm\n14 +\nInteraction Advisories \nLight (business/acquaintance) contact\nMobility Advisories \nNo mobility advisories\nEvent is wheelchair accessible.\nSexual Advisories \nNone\nLocation\nMagnolia Park United Methodist Church\, 91505

SUMMARY:Life Line: An Immersive Drama (On Zoom)
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to be alive? \nThat question is at the heart of LIFE LINE\, a new immersive drama created by Matt Harry (SOMEBODY TO LOVE). The world is filled with so much stress and anxiety right now. Wars\, pandemics\, political upheaval — LIFE LINE seeks to combat all of that. This interactive experience will highlight the joys of living and remind us that\, despite our many ups and downs\, we are all connected. \nAudience members will attend a support group meeting on Zoom. Soon after the meeting begins\, group leader ANGELA (Dorothy Dillingham Blue) is interrupted by JOE (Taylor Karin)\, who announces they want to end their life. Over the course of the next hour\, it will be up to Angela and the audience to convince Joe that there are still reasons to keep going. They will make gratitude lists\, discuss the point of human existence\, and debate which foods make the best “last meal.” \nWhile it deals with heavy topics\, LIFE LINE is not a depressing show. It is a fun\, thoughtful\, and above all\, life-affirming experience. Our hope is that when people leave\, they will view their world in a brand-new way. LIFE LINE is supported in part by a Community Arts Grant from the City of Burbank. This is a special\, online-only show for those unable to travel to the LA area. \nAudience Role\nAs part of the support group\, you can participate as much or as little as you like. You may be asked to think about difficult philosophical topics and consider your own mortality. But don’t we do that every day in some way? \nContent Advisories\nSuicide\, self-harm\nDeath of a loved one\n14 + \nInteraction Advisories\nLight (business/acquaintance) contact \nMobility Advisories\nNo mobility advisories\nEvent is wheelchair accessible. \nSexual Advisories\nNone
