SUMMARY:StarKid's Tomb Quest: A New Musical Comedy
DESCRIPTION:Starkids’ Presents Tomb Quest \nIn a suburban basement\, a formerly close-knit gang meet on the night of their friend’s funeral\, to fulfill his posthumous request: finish the Tomb Quest\, a role-playing campaign they abandoned after high school. Romantic tensions\, a bitter grudge\, bad role-play\, and the fact that nobody quite remembers how the game works will put the journey into peril before the first die is cast. \nIt’s a musical comedy about friendship\, fantasy\, unfinished business\, and the kind of epic quest you can only survive with the right party by your side. \nTix at https://ci.ovationtix.com/34763/production/1275016

SUMMARY:BLCAC August Exhibition - Side by Side: Visions of Nature
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Friday\, July 31 – 7:00 – 9:00pm \nRoger Dolin and Emily Goff are proud to present their first joint exhibition\, celebrating a shared passion for the outdoors and the inspiring mountain landscapes surrounding Los Angeles. Though both artists work in acrylic\, their approaches are uniquely their own: Roger transforms photographs into meticulously painted grid-based compositions\, while Emily incorporates natural ephemera and collage elements into imaginative\, textured interpretations of the natural world. Together\, their work offers two distinct yet complementary perspectives on landscape\, memory\, and artistic process. \nFor more information about Roger and Emily\, take a look at their websites: \nhttps://rogerdolin.com/ \nhttps://emilygoffstudio.com/

SUMMARY:Beyond the Backgrounds Exhibition & Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception: Thursday\, August 6\, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.\n(Free and open to the public) \nBeyond the Backgrounds brings together three former animation background painters whose careers helped shape the visual worlds of Disney\, Warner Bros.\, Nickelodeon\, Sony\, and other major studios. Featured artists Maryann Thomas\, Cristy Maltese\, and Anette Power present personal works that move beyond animation into fine art\, exploring themes of light\, memory\, gratitude\, storytelling\, and everyday beauty. \nFor decades\, the featured artists created the environments and visual worlds that support animated storytelling. This exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to experience the artists’ personal work beyond the screen and discover how their backgrounds in animation continue to influence their creative expression. \nThe exhibition runs through August 28. People are welcome to visit the gallery Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but must make a request in advance. Email jupey.krusho@tag839.org.

SUMMARY:BackStory (Lady Sings the Blues)
DESCRIPTION:The August theme for BackStory is “Lady Sings the Blues” with guest host Ashton Cynthia Clarke. \nA bi-monthly evening of true stories\, poetry\, and flights of fancy.\nEach BackStory begins with a title — a classic play or film — and ends somewhere unexpected. \nWriters use that title as a jumping-off point. They may tell a personal story sparked by its themes. They may write in the voice of a character and reveal what happened before the curtain rose. Or they may simply riff on the words themselves. Whatever the approach\, BackStory has been — consistently — one of the most fascinating and eclectic evenings the Victory has to offer. \nAll shows at 7:30 PM Pacific · Tickets $10 at the door. Proceeds benefit The Victory Theatre Center \nFor tickets and more information: https://thevictorytheatrecenter.org/backstory/

SUMMARY:Catch Me if You Can: The Musical at Colony Theatre
DESCRIPTION:CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: THE MUSICAL\nMUSIC BY MARC SHAIMAN\nBOOK BY TERRENCE McNALLY\nLYRICS BY SCOTT WITTMAN AND MARC SHAIMAN \nBASED ON THE DREAMWORKS MOTION PICTURE\nDIRECTED BY MICHAEL DONOVAN \nSEPTEMBER 17 – OCTOBER 18 \nThe Colony Theatre (Heather Provost\, Producing Artistic Director) has announced a new production of Catch Me If You Can\, the musical\, in 2026. With music by Marc Shaiman\, book by Terrence McNally\, and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman\, ten-time Artios Award-winner Michael Donovan\, director of The Colony’s smash hit The Wedding Singer this past summer\, is set to direct. The original Broadway production of Catch Me If You Can ran in 2011\, receiving four Tony Award nominations including Best Musical and winning one (Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Norbert Leo Butz). \nBased on the hit DreamWorks motion picture and the incredible true story that inspired it\, Catch Me If You Can is a high-flying\, splashy Broadway musical that tells the story of Frank W. Abagnale\, Jr.\, who runs away from home in search of the glamorous life. With nothing more than his boyish charm\, a big imagination and millions of dollars in forged checks\, Frank successfully poses as a pilot\, a doctor\, and a lawyer – living the high life and winning the girl of his dreams. But when Frank’s lies catch the attention of FBI agent Carl Hanratty\, Carl chases Frank to the end … and finds something he never expected.

SUMMARY:BackStory (Let the Right One In/Let Me In)
DESCRIPTION:The October theme for BackStory is “Let the Right One In/Let Me In.” \nA bi-monthly evening of true stories\, poetry\, and flights of fancy. Each BackStory begins with a title — a classic play or film — and ends somewhere unexpected.
