Teri Hendrich
Artist

Can you tell us a little about what you do?
I work as a Color Supervisor for television animation and in my spare time pursue my passion for painting. I enjoy creating visual narratives with vibrant colors that catch both the eyes and hearts of my viewers. This usually involves combining abstract with representational imagery in order to tell a story or convey an emotion. The result is unexpected, captivating, and beautiful. Earlier in the year I exhibited at Gallery 839 within The Animation Guild and am thrilled to have had the opportunity to share my art in Burbank again this May, this time at Lusanet Collective!

How did you first become interested in art?
My interest in art began as a child. I was shy then and found it challenging to communicate my thoughts and feelings verbally. However with art, I found a way to communicate that felt much more natural to me that was wordless, through color and imagery. A universal language that transcends all borders.

How does art enrich a community, and what are some ways people can engage with art in Burbank?
Without art, a community can feel dull and lifeless. Thoughtful placement of color, shape, and form can add so much to an environment. We are fortunate to live in a city that supports the arts and offers a multitude of opportunities for artists to share their works publicly such as painted utility boxes, wall murals, or simply participating in an art fair.

If you could share with our community one thing about art, what would it be?
I would love to share the magical qualities of art! The fact that an artist can create a physical object and imbue it with a specific intention that later viewers can pick up on is amazing to me. I have recently taken this idea to another level by incorporating the principles of electional astrology into my art practice. With this new skillset I am able to create not just paintings, but works of art that are also, in effect, magical talismans.
