Robyn Rhodes
Jewelry Designer
Can you tell us a little bit about what you do?
I’ve been a jewelry designer for over 20 years, specializing in handcrafted pieces made from semi-precious stones.
What is something people might not know about your craft?
In jewelry production, the meticulous process of selecting and pairing semi-precious stones is crucial. Each stone carries unique characteristics, and finding the perfect combination requires a keen eye for both aesthetics and structural integrity. Additionally, many are surprised by the intricate handcrafting involved, highlighting the artisanal nature of the pieces.
How did you first become interested in art?
My passion for the arts began in childhood, fueled by a love for color and creativity. Spending time with my artist aunt and uncle further inspired my involvement in the world of art. One memorable early experience was creating my first piece of jewelry when I was 12. It was a simple bracelet with beads. The satisfaction and joy from that small project fueled my passion for jewelry design and set the course for my creative journey.
How does art enrich a community, and what are some ways people can engage with art in Burbank?
Art enriches a community by fostering creativity, cultural expression and a sense of identity. In Burbank, engaging with art can be a vibrant experience through events like the Jackalope Art Fair, Downtown Burbank Arts Festival, exploring local galleries, or participating in workshops offered by organizations like the Creative Arts Center. These activities not only support local artists, but also create a shared space for residents to connect and appreciate diverse forms of artistic expression.
If you could share with our community one thing about art, what would it be?
Embrace the journey of exploration and don’t fear mistakes; they often lead to unexpected beauty. Let your creativity flow naturally, and remember that the process is as valuable as the final creation.
