Children's Singer/Songwriter / Actress / Piano Teacher

Cultural Artists Spotlight: January 23 – February 5, 2019

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do?
I am a children’s singer/ songwriter, actress, and beginning piano teacher. I create fun, upbeat and interactive songs that promote positivity and early childhood learning. I have recorded a children’s CD titled Giggles and Curls, and it is available online. I create upbeat and interactive songs that promote positivity and early childhood learning over a soundboard of jazz, gospel and soulful pop sounds. One of the songs on my CD, “I Am a Robot,” is a Hip Hop dance favorite amongst preschoolers. I perform my original songs at farmers markets, street festivals and family friendly events throughout the greater Los Angeles area. I also teach preschool music and movement classes and give private beginning piano lessons.

I have also performed with Angel City Chorale, a professional choir based in Los Angeles. I had the honor of appearing with Angel City Chorale on America’s Got Talent in May 2018. We performed Africa by ToTo and won. In addition to singing, I have also acted in numerous stage productions in the greater Los Angeles area, my most recent performance being in the Los Angeles premier of the musical Dessa Rose, for which I have been nominated for an Ovation Award for Featured Actress in a Musical.

How did you first become interested in art?
I loved singing and performing from a very young age, and I honestly don’t remember a time when I wasn’t interested in the Arts. I was exposed to music at a young age and I knew that at some point I would want singing to be a real job. Singing in church while growing up, and being in school plays, church and local productions helped me to realize that I had an ability to do something that made people feel good.

How can art enrich a community, and what are some ways people can become engaged with art in Burbank?

    1. Art brings people together. It allows people to work together to accomplish a shared goal, and creates a feeling of pride and a sense of belonging within that community.
    2. It educates people by creating an awareness of different cultures. It promotes diversity, tolerance and acceptance and provides new perspectives.
    3. It brings joy to peoples’ lives and gives them something to look forward to.
    4. Art in public places increases visits, which in turn creates more business for communities.

People can become more engaged with art in Burbank by supporting one another. Students, parents, business owners and the like can be active partners in programming and creating opportunities for the arts to continue. School plays, fundraisers, grand openings, street fairs and so on are all good ways for people to participate.

If you could share with our community one thing about art, what would it be?
If I could share one thing with the community about art, I would simply stress the importance of everyone experiencing some form of art in their lives. The arts are powerful and healing and transforming, and we all need that in our lives.
