Dr. Ginger Lai
Artist

Can you tell us a little about what you do?
I am a clinical psychologist by training and previously created a line of skincare products under the brand GINGI, which was selected as an official presenter’s gifts for the Oscar®, Emmy®, and Grammy® Awards for many years. After selling the business a few years ago, I have recently taken a more spiritual approach to my life, focusing on the creation of meditative art and jewelry.

Currently I am working on my new series of paintings – Sacred Geometry. I am committed to making 100 paintings on this theme with various medium and materials.

How did you first become interested in art?
I was introduced to the world of art at six years old when I began not only a study in art, but creating art as well. Though art has sometimes been on the “back burner” through periods of my life, it is now my full time focus.

How does art enrich a community, and what are some ways people can engage with art in Burbank?
Art brings joy to people who intrinsically love art. Public art exposes others to art who might never have given much thought to art and the art world. It provides a sense of spiritual values that can be shared across all communities – whether they’re artists or not.

I am very grateful that the City of Burbank has such a strong art commission and focuses on passionately developing a supportive environment for artists.

If you could share with our community one thing about art, what would it be?
Art is about uplifting people. About making them happy. Art is about what is best in the world.
