Can you tell us a little bit about what you do?
I’m a graphic designer and illustrator born and raised in Los Angeles. My work mainly focuses on depicting mundane moments in women’s lives. Breaking down the geometry, colors, and emotions of a simple moment is a great way to reflect on my day and what’s floating around my head. I hope that by celebrating everyday moments through illustration that I enable my audience to feel that simply getting through the day is enough. It is a feat worthy of acknowledgment and depiction.
How did you first become interested in art?
I can’t remember a singular moment when I became interested in art. Rather, it was a constant presence in my life growing up. My parents are both creative, and spent their free time with me painting, drawing, and encouraging my creativity at every opportunity. In college, I studied architecture, but I always enjoyed explaining my projects to my peers through graphic design. When I graduated, I decided to set my sights on a career in the field. I love having the ability to communicate through imagery as a career.
How can art enrich a community, and what are some ways people can become engaged with art in Burbank?
Art is a mark that screams, “A human was here!” An active art community that participates in beautification projects, live performance, and festivals makes it clear that the community is strong and cares for their neighborhood. This earns the renown of visitors, and nurtures the pride of locals. Burbank was initially attractive to me 4 years ago because I knew some creative friends settling in the area who felt that sense of community. It’s a great place to meet and collaborate with other artists! In fact, my friends and I recently hosted an independent web series premiere at the Colony Theatre.
If you could share with our community one thing about art, what would it be?
Art touches every aspect of what we see and consume on a daily basis. I consider Burbank to be an artistic capital, harboring multiple studios and agencies on the cutting edge. This is a fantastic place to live to influence and participate in what’s next.
